Congratulations to Jim Heffernan and Pakie O’Donoghue who were both awarded Certificates of Honorable Mention in the recent SACC Nature competition 2014. Jim was awarded his Honorable Mention in the Color Print Open competition and Pakie won his in the Themed Projected section “The Natural World”. Well done you both on a fantastic achievement. Congratulations are also in order to Yvonne Esaw, Sinead O’Connell, Sandra Saridonas Zeimyte and John Flynn who, along with Pakie & Jim, had qualifying images for the IPF Nature competition National Finals coming up in March. Well done to you all and best of luck in the finals.

On Monday 27th January we are delighted to have  press photographer Stephen Murphy as our guest. Stephen has been covering events in Mallow and the surrounding areas for some time and has accumulated a vast library of photographs.

Tea and coffee will be served on the night.

The club is holding an Outing To Torc Waterfall next Saturday leaving the arches at 1.00 pm or you can meet up at the car park  at Torc Waterfall at 2.30. We hope to be at the lakes for sunset.

Open theme competition

Next Monday night we are holding an open theme competition at the club. Each member can enter up to five images total in any format printed or digital. The night will start at 8.00 pm to allow time to organize the digital images.

The Blackwater Photographic Society had its first social night out with a Christmas Dinner at the Arches. Members and their partners had a great night out. Everybody was in a festive mood helped no doubt by the complementary wine. Thanks to the  arches staff who served up a fabulous meal on the night.

Bring along your photographs (Digital or Prints) next Monday night for evaluation. This is an opportunity to show your work and receive helpful tips on how to improve your photography. As always bring along your cameras and laptops if you have any queries on same.

The BFS are having a night shoot around Mallow Town instead of our normal night at the Arches. Meeting up at the Arches at 8.30. Bring your tripods and remote releases if you have them. Night photography opens up a whole new area and can be fun.

A club photo shoot to Gougane Barra be held on Sunday. Leaving from the Arches at 6.00 AM sharp. Club members should avail of the good weather and fabulous light at this time of year.

This means that its members are eligible to compete in IPF and SACC competitions including the upcoming SACC Print & Projected Image Competition which will be held on Sunday 03 November 2013 at the Horse & Jockey Hotel, Co. Tipperary.  Note change of venue.  Prints can be handed in between 8:30 and 10:00 a.m. Public judging will commence at 11:00 a.m. A full schedule will be published on the SACC website over the coming days.

All club members who wish to enter the competition must do so via our online entry system (powered by Picturk).  This applies for all sections/categories including prints as print titles need to be registered on the system.  Members can find the link to the entry system on our website www.sacc.ie or by clicking this link.

The closing date for entries is midnight Friday 01 November 2013 which is now less than a week away.

The competition is important for two reasons; it is an SACC competition in its own right with medals for the prize winners, and it is also the SACC Regional Qualifying Round of the IPF Print & Projected Image Competition, the finals of which will be held in February 2014.

Halloween came early on Monday 21st Oct when members were treated to an extravaganza of beauty and color combined with stunning makeup and costumes.The models posed with various props which included a life size skeleton. Thanks to our beautiful models on the night Ivona, Agne and Aoife and to their talented makeup artist.

David Lavery started of the night with a few words on the technicalities and techniques used in studio photography. He also  outlined the proper etiquette to be used when photographing models. What followed was a very busy night with members queuing to get their chance  to photograph  the girls. Some great shots resulted and these were shown a few minutes later on the projector.
