A very big congratulations to Blackwater Photographic Society member Pakie O’Donoghue on receiving a Photographic Society of America (PSA) Honourable Mention Ribbon for his image Lone stone which he entered in the 3rd Cork International Salon of Photography. This Monday 7th March, we have a visit from Barker Photographic owner Paddy Barker. Barker Photographic Ltd. Is a Cork based Importer and Retailer of Quality Photographic products and Camera Accessories – virtually everything for the Professional and keen Photographer. He has built the business over two decades by providing great products, coupled with good stocks at keen prices and friendly efficient customer service. Amongst other subjects, Paddy will talk to us about the various types of photo paper and the differences it makes to your printed image. This is a very fitting subject after our recent nights on taking photos (model shoot), editing photos (photoshop for beginners etc) and now printing you images, which sees the whole process through from start to finish. Printing is something we haven’t been able to spend much time on recently so please make sure to support our club on this night. it’s sure to be interesting and informative.

Hi everyone – some of you may have heard the recent news about 2 of our club members success in the SACC a short while ago. So a very big congratulations goes to Valerie Walsh and Kieran O’Mahony. Val won an Honourable mention at the IPF Photographer of the Year awards in the projected open section (intermediate level) for her image of a sea stack taken on the copper coast. A beautiful Image Valerie, well done.
Kieran O Mahony won the David Osbourn Judges medal the follow day in the IPF Nature Photographer of the year awards in the projected open section (Advanced level) for his image of a deer taken at Lough Leane, Killarney. Well done kieran.
We’d also like to say well done to all the other members of the club who’s images had also qualified for the finals. This is fantastic result for the all the photographers involved.

Hi all – some notices for our members for the coming few days.

Firstly – we’re all meeting up outside Mallow library on Thursday evening (18th Feb) to take a group photo along side our Club exhibition in the Library.

Next Monday we have a visit from Award winning Landscape and Nature photographer Mike Brown. Mike also runs of Platform3 photographic resource centre in cork city. This should be an very interesting night for everyone.

Last Monday night was our annual Model shoot where we try to a studio type lighting and everyone gets to direct their model, try different lighting effects and styles. This is always a busy night where memory cards get filled up faster than ESB poles before al election !!

We have to give a very special THANK YOU to our three Models on the night, Aoife Flahive, Aoife Walsh and Muireann O’Sullivan for all their time, patience and great humour. All three looked fabulous and and we really appreciate all your help. Without you, we’d end up taking photos of ourselves !! and some even did.
As always we’d like to thank everyone who helped make the night so successful and especially Sean Murphy and Jerry Creedon (& crew) for going above and beyond with their creativity to make sure we had all the set-ups we could need. Thanks Lads, it was brilliant

An exhibition of photography by members of Blackwater Photographic Society will be on display in Mallow Library, Thomas Davis st. Mallow from Thursday 11th to Wednesday 24th of February . Many of our members were new to photography when the club was established in 2013, and this is a great opportunity for everyone to come along and see the progress of skill and creativity achieved through membership in this local photography club. Blackwater photography society meets every Monday night 8:30 p.m. in the function room at The Arches Bar Bellevue Mallow from May to September, and new members are always welcome.
Established in 2013, Blackwater Photographic Society was founded by a group of photography enthusiasts in the North Cork area. The purpose of the society is to share and promote photography amongst its members in an informal welcoming environment.

Hi everyone – our club outing to Gleninchaquin park (down Kenmare direction) is going on this Saturday 13th Feb. We’ll be leaving the Arches at 7am. €6.00 entry fee per person. Make sure to bring wellies, warm clothes, rain gear and camera gear.

A very big thank you to Photographer Niamh Whitty for her visit to Blackwater Photography Society on Monday night. Niamh’s genuine, honest and very insightful journey on how she combined her love of flowers and photography to create her unique and award winning images was wonderfully narrated by the artist herself and had us all captivated. She also chronicled her various accreditation excursions, detailing the dedication, time and effort involved. This impressed everyone and even scared a few of us.
Thanks again Niamh for a genuinely lovely evening.

Also – thanks to everyone involved in organising the evening especially Jerry Creedon for proving the great lighting.

A very big congratulations to BPS member Geraldine Dennehy on coming runner up at the Irish Examiner Readers Photography competition for 2015. Geraldine’s photo, taken at the Millstreet Horse show, was a real fast grab that is guaranteed to make you smile. Ger won a handsome money prize and a bottle of Champagne for her image.
We’d like to thank the Irish examiner for sending us a picture of Geraldine (and her daughter) receiving her prize in the Irish Examiner offices. Well done Geraldine.
