A night With Niamh Whitty

This Monday (1st Feb) we are delighted to have a night with photographer Niamh Whitty.
Niamh is a multi-award winning photographer with her own very recognisable and unique style of photography known across the globe – and she’s from Cork.
Along with a list of awards longer than the Carrigrohane straight, Niamh was recently awarded an associateship with the Royal Photography Society in October adding to her existing fellowship with the Irish Photographic Federation.
We’d like to encourage all our members and friends to come along to The function room at The Arches Bar mallow this Monday for what is a must for anyone with an interest in Photography.
See you all there.

Model shoot 2016 date changed

Hi all – our Model shoot that was planned for next Monday has had to be moved to Monday 8th February 2016. This means that next Monday (25th January 2016) we’ll have a night Shoot around Mallow and trying some night time light photography techniques. If the weather is unsuitable, then we’ll have the second part of “photoshop for Beginners” so have your laptops with you too.
We’ll try to let everyone know beforehand (by text and on here) if the plan will be for outdoors or indoors.

We’re back for 2016 after a wet and windy Christmas break

Hi everyone – we’re starting up this Monday 11th January at 8:30 p.m after the Christmas break. Our first meeting back will be a night on Photoshop for Beginners so make to bring your laptops and your questions.
For anyone interested in Photography and would like to meet up with other like-mined people Blackwater Photography Society was established in 2013 and was founded by a group of photography enthusiasts in the North Cork area. The purpose of the society is to share and promote photography amongst its members in an informal welcoming environment.
We meet every Monday night around 8:30 p.m in the Function room of The Arches Bar Bellview Mallow and new members are always welcome.

Where is it? What is it. Fun competition night.

Hi everyone,
We have our last competition before the Christmas break next Monday night (14th Dec) . The theme for this one is “Where is it? What is it?
As there was no meeting last Monday night we were unable to take the entries the week before as usual so if you could all email your entries please to Kieranomahony72@gmail.com before this Friday.
An example of this would be a very close up picture of a matchstick, then another normal picture of the matchstick. The idea is just a fun night where we have to guess what the image is or where the image was taken . This has made for a good entertaining evening in the past so please try to take part if you can.
Maximum 5 subject images each, so if you’re showing a subject images then you’d have another normal image to explain what it is or where it is, then that makes a total of 10 images altogether.
Best of luck!

  • So,the weather gods have conspired against us again!! and tonight’s (Monday 7th Dec) trip to cork city to photograph the Christmas lights will NOT be going ahead. The forecast is for heavy rain and high winds. There is no plan B for tonight due to the amount of nights we’ve had to move around so I guess we’ll all have a night in front of the fire at home, or in front of Photoshop…..at home.

Library exhibition coming soon

We’ll be having our annual exhibition in Mallow Library early next year so this is just a reminder to everyone to try and select your favourite 2 photographs and have them printed. We’ll arrange a night to help everyone mount their images soon. Kieran is ordering Mounts very soon so make sure and get your order in and of course Jerry Creedon is at hand for printing and will also help you with the frames that were such a huge success in last years exhibition. We may not get two images displayed, it depends on the number of members displaying images and the space available in the library but best have 2 ready in case . If you need any contact details just reply to Terry’s number (from the text you get most weeks) and ask him for the numbers you need.

Christmas in Cork City – this coming Monday night (7th Dec)

Hi everyone. There won’t be any Meeting at the Arches this coming Monday (7th dec) as the club will be travelling to Cork city to Photograph the City in all its Christmas splendor. We’re meeting in Paul Street, at the entrance to the car park at half 7 Monday evening. Make sure to bring your camera gear (including tripod if you’ve got one). This is always an interesting evening with plenty of opportunity for festive lighting photos.

BPS Members strike gold at the SACC Print & Projected competition

Fantastic news for two of our club members recently at the SACC (southern Association of Camera Clubs) print & projected photography competition. BPS member Pakie O’ Donoghue was awarded a gold medal in the advanced projected section and  Valerie Walsh, also a member of Blackwater Photographic society, was not only awarded a gold medal in the non advanced projected section but  Valerie also received an honourable mention for her image.  A fantastic achievement. Congratulations you both.
