Where is it? What is it. Fun competition night.

Hi everyone,
We have our last competition before the Christmas break next Monday night (14th Dec) . The theme for this one is “Where is it? What is it?
As there was no meeting last Monday night we were unable to take the entries the week before as usual so if you could all email your entries please to Kieranomahony72@gmail.com before this Friday.
An example of this would be a very close up picture of a matchstick, then another normal picture of the matchstick. The idea is just a fun night where we have to guess what the image is or where the image was taken . This has made for a good entertaining evening in the past so please try to take part if you can.
Maximum 5 subject images each, so if you’re showing a subject images then you’d have another normal image to explain what it is or where it is, then that makes a total of 10 images altogether.
Best of luck!

  • So,the weather gods have conspired against us again!! and tonight’s (Monday 7th Dec) trip to cork city to photograph the Christmas lights will NOT be going ahead. The forecast is for heavy rain and high winds. There is no plan B for tonight due to the amount of nights we’ve had to move around so I guess we’ll all have a night in front of the fire at home, or in front of Photoshop…..at home.

Library exhibition coming soon

We’ll be having our annual exhibition in Mallow Library early next year so this is just a reminder to everyone to try and select your favourite 2 photographs and have them printed. We’ll arrange a night to help everyone mount their images soon. Kieran is ordering Mounts very soon so make sure and get your order in and of course Jerry Creedon is at hand for printing and will also help you with the frames that were such a huge success in last years exhibition. We may not get two images displayed, it depends on the number of members displaying images and the space available in the library but best have 2 ready in case . If you need any contact details just reply to Terry’s number (from the text you get most weeks) and ask him for the numbers you need.

Christmas in Cork City – this coming Monday night (7th Dec)

Hi everyone. There won’t be any Meeting at the Arches this coming Monday (7th dec) as the club will be travelling to Cork city to Photograph the City in all its Christmas splendor. We’re meeting in Paul Street, at the entrance to the car park at half 7 Monday evening. Make sure to bring your camera gear (including tripod if you’ve got one). This is always an interesting evening with plenty of opportunity for festive lighting photos.

BPS Members strike gold at the SACC Print & Projected competition

Fantastic news for two of our club members recently at the SACC (southern Association of Camera Clubs) print & projected photography competition. BPS member Pakie O’ Donoghue was awarded a gold medal in the advanced projected section and  Valerie Walsh, also a member of Blackwater Photographic society, was not only awarded a gold medal in the non advanced projected section but  Valerie also received an honourable mention for her image.  A fantastic achievement. Congratulations you both.

Photographer Of The Year Competition

Hi everyone. So we had our Photographer of the year 2015 competition last Monday and it was choc full of Digital images, Prints and club members. We had almost 400 (398 to be exact) images entered which kept our three judges from Cork Camera Group pretty busy. I’d like to thank our three experienced judges Paul Maher, Ann Francis and Jason Town for coming up to judge our competition for us. It was no easy task and we appreciate it immensely.
Now for the results: Novice category: 3rd was Finbar Murphy, 2nd Tom Healy and Donie Ford took first place. Only 2 points separated 1st 2nd and third there.
Intermediate: 3rd was Geraldine Dennehey, 2nd was Sinead Salter and first place went to Sheila O’Connor. Again the scoring was extremely tight here.
Next was Overall photographer of the year: 3rd was John Flynn, 2nd was Sean Murphy and first place with the highest overall score over 5 images was Rodney O’Callaghan. Rodney retains his title from last year with an impressive score. Only 1 point separated 2nd and third here also.
Rodney also won B&W photographer of the Year with highest score overall score over 3 B&W prints This is Rodney’s second year in a row winning this one too. Rodney also had the highest scoring image on the night with 26 out of a possible 30. He also pick up 2 spot prizes for Judge’s favorite in color and B&W print. Sinead Salter won a spot prize for Judge’s favorite in digital.
So a very big well done to all the night’s winners and to everyone who took part. As we’re on a summer break until September we’ll all have a little more free time, so may I suggest we all now put our efforts into distracting Rodney in any way possible to keep him from capturing winning images !!
It was a very enjoyable night for everyone and all that’s left is to thank Yvonne Esaw & Terry Conroy for organizing the competition, Tim Coughlan for arranging the fabulous prizes, to the club committee and everyone else who helped in any way possible in ensuring the night went smoothly. Finally a special thank you to the Management & Staff of the Arches Bar Mallow for all their help and support throughout the season. Keep checking in as we’ll have more notices to come over the next few days and keep focused (groan) on your photography.
